» How long has Motornet been in business?
Motornet first began trading as a Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealer (LMVD) in 2013, although Colin has been regularly importing cars from Japan on an informal basis for over 12 years.
When it comes to buying and importing quality used cars direct from Japan, you can be confident that you're in experienced hands!
» Why are your car prices so reasonable?
We are able to offer very competitive pricing on our vehicles because we operate 100 percent as an online business, and do not have the high overheads that a traditional car yard incurs. And by keeping our costs down, we are able to pass the savings on to you.
» I don't want to wait to import a car. Do you have any cars in stock already?
Yes, we always try to keep a select number of cars in stock locally for sale to those who want to buy a quality used vehicle at a good price now. However, our cars are often reserved by prospective buyers prior to their arrival in Auckland and then usually on-sold immediately once cleared by NZ Customs, MAF and NZTA for import into New Zealand.
See the following Q&A for details on reserving a vehicle.
A list of all the cars that we currently have in stock - plus any vehicles that may be 'In Transit' from Japan - are detailed on the Vehicles page.
» Can I reserve a vehicle that you are already importing and, if so, is there an extra cost?
Any cars that we have already bought for our own stock at the Japanese Auctions and are in the process of importing will be listed in the 'ARRIVING SOON' section of the Vehicles page. Talk to us about reserving a car and, provided it hasn't already been reserved by another customer, you will be given a no-obligation 'right of first refusal' once the car has cleared the entry compliance process and becomes available for sale.
There is no charge for this and you are under no obligation to buy the car once it arrives.
Details of any vehicles that may currently be 'In Transit' from Japan are listed on the Vehicles page.
» I don't live in Auckland. Can you arrange delivery to me elsewhere in New Zealand?
No problem! Whether you live in Christchurch or Dunedin, Queenstown or Wellington - and anywhere in between - we can arrange to have your car delivered to you, and at 'mates rates' too.
We've got your auto sorted - wherever you live!
» How are your cars transported?
Our vehicles are shipped from Japan to Auckland on dedicated RORO (Roll-On, Roll-Off) car carrier vessels.
Vehicles that are being delivered to our customers elsewhere in New Zealand are then sent by road on specialised car transporters.
» If I import a car, will it be insured in transit?
Yes, all of the cars we import are insured by our Shippers from the time they leave the Auction House in Japan until delivery to our Compliance Centre in Auckland. Insurance cover is then provided by Motornet until you take delivery at which time you will need to arrange the appropriate insurance.
» How can I view and test-drive a car?
Although we are an internet-based company, you are welcome to view and test-drive any of our cars. Simply give us a call and we can arrange to meet you at a time and place that suits you.
» What does ORC stand for?
ORC is an abbreviation for On-Road-Costs which are charges incurred by a dealer to make a vehicle legal on New Zealand roads.
Misleadingly, there is no standard motor industry definition for what may or may not be included as an ORC which can vary widely from dealer to dealer. However, when buying an imported used vehicle, ORCs may include typical import and entry compliance costs, vehicle registration and number plates, Road User Charges (for diesel vehicles), and finally, GST.
With Motornet, the above on-road-costs are included in our advertised selling price so you can be confident there won't be any nasty surprises or hidden 'extras'.
» Do you offer Finance?
We would be happy to assist you in arranging finance at competitive interest rates through our motor industry association with Nobilo Finance. Ask us for a referral.
» If I want to import a car, how long will it take for it to arrive?
We recommend that you allow 4 to 5 weeks from the time your confirmed order is placed with us until your car arrives in Auckland and has cleared Customs and undergone compliance inspections.
However, it can sometimes take as little as 2 to 3 weeks, depending on international shipping schedules.
» Do you have any loan cars and are there any hire charges?
If you are importing a car through Motornet, we may be able to provide you with a courtesy car while your vehicle is in transit, depending on availability.
We do not charge for the use of a loan vehicle which is a free service we offer as a courtesy to our customers. The only cost to you will be your petrol and other user-pays charges (toll fees, parking and any traffic fines, etc.) which you may incur while the car is on loan to you.
